About The Sleeposaurus

Two young children have been playing hard all day when suddenly one of them yawns. This invites the Sleeposaurus to wake and begin the adventure. The Sleeposaurus attempts to put the kids to sleep while the kids do their best to runaway and stay awake. This follows the arc of children getting prepared to sleep. Their PJ's are their armor. Their toothbrushes swords. All along the parents are in the background helping them. Their faces never seen. The family represents what we know. Mixed couples, adoptees, people with physical disabilities. The genders are never emphasized, and often not insinuated. To us, this makes the story more real and accessible. The book follows along in the tradition of books meant for preparing kids for sleep. Like Goodnight Goodnight, Construction Site with its large machines and beautiful scenery. It uses meter and rhyme to create a nice flow, like "I took the Moon for a Walk", or Ada Twist, Scientist. Its progression is reminiscent of All by Myself and Twenty Yawns, where the children are directing the day and getting ready. The book is read to our own son, who is nearly 3 and to friends who are as old as 6. The art is inspired by modern work done in animated movies. Many of the mythical creatures are connected to a community from around the world. They are positively associated with sleep or good luck, like Uzumaki, or (bird). We have grown up in a vibrant community with many cultures and this book attempts to positively include those aspects. We hope you enjoy the book as much as we did writing it. It was definitely a labor of love!
